We've spent most of the day trying to get Domino 7.0.3 upgraded to 8.0.1 on RHEL 5.2, but constantly ran into what appeared to be java errors. Via the Graphical installer we would get:
The installer is unable to run in graphical mode. Try running the installer with the -console or -silent flag.
Running in console mode would drop out without any errors as soon as we confirmed the data path as /local/notesdata. We checked this link http://tinyurl.com/5a3rqf (technote: Domino 8 install fails without any errors) but although the file reported was the same one, the error was different and we didn't have any issues with /tmp.
The only workaround we have found is to rename \notesdata, do a clean install, then copy across the data files into the new installation.
We were on a deadline to get this done (the test upgrade on an identical RHEL 5 release went without any errors!) so have completed it via the workaround, but if anyone can offer any clues on this in case we run into it again that would be great.
Thanks, Mike
